Stilbaai Deep Sea
Deep Sea fishing spot
The reefs off Stilbaai offer superb bottom fishing within easy reach of the sheltered Goukou river-mouth launch. Red roman, red stumpnose, silverfish and dageraad hold on the inshore pinnacles, with musselcracker and big reds on the deeper marks. In summer, yellowtail arrive over the high spots and katonkel skip along the colour lines — troll small konas or throw spoons when birds show.
Most fishing is done in 20–60 m with standard two-hook bottom traces and squid/sardine baits. The launch through the river mouth is tide-dependent, so trips are planned around it.
Several local charters operate from Stilbaai for visitors without their own boats. Commercial and recreational limits apply to reef fish — check current regulations, as several species are protected or have tight bag limits.
