Fishing in Nature's Valley

Fishing in Nature's Valley

Nature's Valley is the quietest corner of the Garden Route — a village wrapped in forest at the foot of the Grootrivier pass, fronting an unspoilt beach that rarely sees a crowd. The surf produces kob, blacktail, steenbras and galjoen in winter, with the rocky corners at either end of the beach offering classic gulley fishing.

The Groot River lagoon behind the beach is a gem for light-tackle and fly anglers: mullet, springer, small grunter and the occasional garrick when the mouth opens. It's ideal water for teaching kids or fishing a quiet evening rise.

Best seasons: galjoen June to September in the gulleys; kob on summer evenings; lagoon fishing year-round. There are no shops or fuel in the village, so bring everything — and treat this pristine stretch gently: it sits within the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park, so check regulations.
