Fishing in Storms River

Storms River and the greater Tsitsikamma coast is wild, dramatic fishing country: sheer cliffs, deep gulleys and surging water that holds serious fish. Big blacktail, bronze bream, musselcracker, galjoen and kob patrol the washes, and hooking a fish here is only half the battle — the terrain demands sure feet, heavy tackle and respect for the sea.

Much of this coastline falls within the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area — the oldest in Africa — where angling is restricted to specific zones or prohibited. The MPA is exactly why the open sections fish so well, acting as a nursery for the whole coast.

Best seasons: winter for galjoen and bream in the gulleys; summer evenings for kob near the river mouths. Check current SANParks regulations and permitted zones before fishing, hire local knowledge if you can, and never turn your back on the swell here.
