Fishing in Jeffreys Bay
Jeffreys Bay is world-famous for its right-hand point break — and quietly excellent for fishing. The same structure that shapes the surf funnels baitfish along the point, and kob, garrick and shad follow. The rocky ledges from the Point through Noorsekloof produce blacktail, zebra, bronze bream and winter galjoen, while the long beaches toward Aston Bay fish well for kob and steenbras after dark.
The Kabeljous River mouth and lagoon north of town is a productive, family-friendly venue for grunter and springer, and the Seekoei estuary at Aston Bay offers similar light-tackle sport.
Best seasons: shad runs autumn and winter; kob October to April; galjoen June to September. Surfers own the line-up by day — anglers get their reward at dawn, dusk and after dark when the point comes alive with feeding fish.
