Gouritz River Mouth
River fishing spot
The Gouritz River mouth is a legendary kob and garrick venue. The deep channel where the river meets the sea concentrates baitfish, and predators follow: garrick from November through April (live mullet or big surface plugs), and kob year-round with the best fish after dark on live baits and fresh chokka.
Both banks fish well — the eastern side gives easier access from Gouritsmond village, while the western rocks produce galjoen and bream in winter. Upriver, the estuary holds grunter and springer for light-tackle anglers.
Water colour is everything here: after heavy rains the river pushes dirty water and the fishing dies until it clears. The mouth area can have strong currents — fish with a friend and respect the water. Basic supplies available in the village.
