Wilderness Beach is prime kob water: a steep, deep surf beach where big fish feed within metres of the shore break. The first two hours of light and the last hour of the day are golden — work paddletails, spoons or fresh sardine and chokka baits in the deeper gutters. Summer produces the better kob, while autumn brings strong shad runs.
The beach also gives up white steenbras, blacktail and the occasional garrick near the Touw River mouth. Because the beach shelves steeply, side-wash can be strong: use grapnel sinkers and don't wade deep.
Access is easy from the village and the N2 viewpoints, and you can walk east toward Leentjiesklip or west toward the river mouth to find unpressured water. Sunrise here is spectacular — bring the camera as well as the rods.
