Mossel Bay Point
Rock And Surf fishing spot
The Point at Mossel Bay is one of the most famous rock venues on the southern Cape coast. Deep water within casting range means shad (elf) arrive in numbers through autumn and winter, with garrick hunting the white water from spring into summer. Kob are taken after dark on live and cut baits, and the ledges produce blacktail, zebra and the odd musselcracker on heavier traces.
Spinning with plugs and spoons at first light is the classic approach for garrick and shad; bait anglers do best on the pushing tide. The rocks are accessible and popular, so expect company in season — arrive early for the prime ledges near the lighthouse.
Facilities are close by (parking, shops, bait) making this an easy venue for a quick session. Watch the swell on big south-westerly days.
