Rock And Surf fishing spot
The Knysna Heads — the towering sandstone cliffs guarding the lagoon entrance — funnel enormous tidal flows through a narrow channel, creating a fish highway. Big kob hold in the deep channels and are targeted from boats on the slack tides; garrick patrol the current lines in summer; and musselcracker and bream live along the rocky walls.
The eastern Head offers shore access to deep water — a renowned (and demanding) venue for garrick and kob. Currents are seriously strong: fish the tide changes rather than full flow, use heavy sinkers, and treat the water with respect.
Much of the area falls under SANParks regulation with restricted zones — confirm where you may fish and current limits. Boat anglers should only run the Heads entrance in appropriate conditions; it's one of the most dangerous passages on the coast.
