Hartenbos Beach
Shore fishing spot
Hartenbos offers kilometres of gently shelving, easily accessible surf beach — ideal for anglers who like to spread out and hunt gutters. Kob are the main prize from October to April, taken after dark on paddletails and fresh baits in the deeper holes. Autumn shad runs can be prolific, and daytime sessions produce blacktail, stumpnose and steenbras on smaller hooks.
The beach's easy access points (multiple parking areas along the beachfront) and flat, safe sand make it one of the best venues on the coast for family fishing and for teaching newcomers.
When the Hartenbos River mouth is open, the area around it concentrates fish — grunter inside, kob and garrick outside. Tackle shops and bait are minutes away in town.
